 KNOWING COVID-19

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered type of corona virus. This virus is a new virus and an unknown disease prior to the outbreak in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.

History of Invention

On December 31, 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) received information about pneumonia cases that occurred in the city of Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.

On January 7, 2020, Chinese authorities confirmed that they had identified a new virus, namely the Corona virus, which is a family of flu viruses, such as the SARS and MERS viruses, of which more than 2,000 cases of virus infection were reported in China, including outside Hubei Province.

Corona virus (CoV) is a family of viruses that causes diseases ranging from the common cold to more serious illnesses such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-SoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). On February 11, 2020, WHO announced the name of the new type of Corona virus is Corona Virus Disease 2019 (abbreviated as COVID-19).

Incubation Period

The incubation period may vary between patients, i.e. 2-14 days after exposure to the virus based on the incubation period indicated previously for the MERS virus. An incubation period of 24 days has been observed in recent studies. The WHO says the long incubation period could reflect multiple exposure to the Coronavirus.

According to a recent report, it is possible that a person infected with Covid-19 could be contagious before they show significant symptoms.

Transmission

Person-to-person transmission is thought to occur via droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes, similar to how influenza and other respiratory pathogens can be inhaled into the lungs.

Covid-19 transmission can also occur by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then the person touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their own eyes.

Is There a Vaccine or Drug for Covid-19?

There is no vaccine or specific treatment for the Covid-19 virus to date. However, the symptoms caused by this virus can be treated. Treatment therefore must be based on the patient's clinical condition and supportive care can be very effective.

Are There Antibiotics to Prevent and Treat Covid-19?

Antibiotics do not work against viruses. Antibiotics are used only to fight bacteria. Antibiotics should not be used as a means of preventing or treating viral infections. However, antibiotics will be given because secondary bacterial infection may occur while the patient is hospitalized.

Prevention of Covid-19 Transmission

1. Wash hands for 20 seconds with soap and running water according to WHO standards

2. Avoid crowds / crowds

3. Keep a distance from other people

4. Avoid direct contact with people who are sick

5. Regular consumption of vitamins that can increase immunity when healthy and accelerate healing when sick

6. Use a mask when leaving the house

7. Clean and disinfect frequently touched items
